What Happened?
I was on my husband’s motorbike as a pillion passenger. He had an accident in the middle of a roundabout and I got hurt. I broke my elbow and suffered a nasty cut above the eye. There was lots of bruising too and I had pain in my hip. I had to be taken to A+E in the end.
When I was at the hospital they decided that they had to operate on my elbow. They had to put a plate put into my elbow and then it was plastered. As time went on my hip grew worse and when I went back to the hospital they just gave me medication and a crutch and referred me to physio. However, I was later advised that I needed a new hip. It turns out that I already had osteoarthritis in my hip, but the accident accelerated the injury and made it worse. I was told by the hospital that I had to wait another 2 years for the operation.
What Impact Did The Injuries Have On Your Life?
I couldn’t do very much even though it was my left arm. I’m right-handed but I do need to use my left hand a lot of the time. I couldn’t get dressed, couldn’t do housework, couldn’t go out much because of the pain in my hip. I didn’t get to do the things I like to do, like go out on the motorcycle. I couldn’t help out with my grandchildren and I couldn’t play with them. It was a nightmare and a very depressing time.
What Made You Decide To Get Legal Advice?
After my operation on my elbow, my husband was distraught that he’d caused this and suggested that I should claim against his insurance policy. It only seemed right to try and get compensation to pay for the hip replacement. This was the biggest factor in making a claim.
What Was It Like Working With JF Law?

Were You Happy With The Result?
I was very happy with the result. My solicitor had an expert review the case which helped us come to a fair and reasonable value. The defendant then made an offer which was in the range expected. I decided to settle. Michael explained all of the deadlines for making the offer and accepting and what the final fees would be, which again I found very helpful. It took around two years from start to finish which I was very happy with.
