What Happened?

I was assaulted at work by a client. It was somebody I was looking after who had learning difficulties. They suddenly started attacking me and grabbed and twisted my arm and hit and scratched my face. I complained to my manager but my employer didn’t do anything. They just said it was part of the job, but this person was very difficult to work with and they knew it and didn’t conduct any risk assessments.

What Impact Did The Injuries Have On Your Life?

For the first few weeks after the accident, I suffered with my wrist. I had pulled ligaments which made it very difficult to lift heavy items. In the end I had to get help from a friend around the house. 

When I went back to work I found things very stressful. It wasn’t the first time an incident happened with this resident and I asked my manager to not allow me to work with them anymore, but this was denied. In the end, I had to make a complaint to the Care Quality Commission (CQC). They visited and decided to move the resident because the home wasn’t suitable for their care needs.

What Made You Decide To Get Legal Advice?

I decided to get legal advice because I wanted the management of the company to be accountable. It’s a tough job to do and it is made harder when you can be randomly attacked. I wanted a risk assessment and in the end, CQC moved the patient which made me feel that I was right in what I was asking for and that I had been wronged by my employer.

What Was It Like Working With JF Law?

I found JF Law to be very attentive throughout. They understood what I was going through and were very supportive and empathetic. I didn’t expect to get that from a law firm.

My solicitor, Michael, was a really kind and thoughtful person, thinking about me and not the claim. He would phone me to see how I was doing, to check whether I understood what was going on, how I was recovering after surgery and so on. 

He helped me understand in simplistic terms what was happening with the claim. I got a bit scared about letters going into court and he explained everything to me and reassured me all the time.
