If you have suffered burns, blistering, rashes or scarring after using a Mitchum deodorant, you may be entitled to compensation. Reports have linked certain batches to serious skin reactions caused by product defects, leading to recalls and safety concerns. Under product liability law, manufacturers can be held accountable where a product fails to meet expected safety standards and causes injury. Establishing a clear link between the product and the harm suffered is key to pursuing a successful claim.

What Has Caused The Mitchum Deodorant Recall?
Reports of burning, irritation, and other serious skin reactions caused the Mitchum deodorant recall, affecting batches of the company’s 100ml 48-hour roll-on anti-perspirant products. This product withdrawal impacted specific batches sold in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa.
Following an investigation, Mitchum UK stated that the issue did not result from a change in the product’s formula. Rather, the company identified a specific change in the manufacturing process for one of the raw materials used in the deodorant. Mitchum has since announced that it has switched back to the original process.
Due to reports of adverse reactions, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued a safety report on 2 October 2025. This advised consumers experiencing issues to stop using the identified products.
What Mitchum Roll-On Product Batches Are Included In The Recall?
The Mitchum roll-on product batches included in the recall relate to several fragrances for men’s and women’s 100ml antiperspirants manufactured in South Africa. The government’s OPSS safety report identified the following fragrances impacted by the recall:
- Women’s 100ml roll-on: Powder Fresh, Pure Fresh, Flower Fresh, Shower Fresh, and Unscented.
- Men’s 100ml roll-on: Clean Control, Sport, and Ice Fresh.

What Are Your Legal Options If Injured By Mitchum Deodorant?
If you have sustained an injury that you believe is linked to a recalled Mitchum deodorant product, you may have several legal options for seeking compensation. In the UK, specific legislation exists to protect consumers from harm caused by defective products:
- The Consumer Protection Act 1987: Strict liability is established by this Act, meaning you do not have to establish negligence in a personal injury claim. Instead, you only have to show that the deodorant product was faulty and directly caused your injury.
- The Consumer Rights Act 2015: Under Section 9, goods (including deodorants) must be safe to use and be of a satisfactory quality. This means products must meet a standard a reasonable person would consider satisfactory. For a personal care product like a roll-on antiperspirant, this standard would include ensuring it is safe to use on skin when applied as intended.
What Can I Claim For?
Depending on your experience, you may be able to claim compensation for:
- Pain and suffering caused by skin irritation, blistering, or burns
- Permanent scarring or lasting marks
- Emotional distress resulting from scarring or skin discolouration
- Private medical treatment, ranging from prescriptions for special creams to cosmetic procedures to reduce the appearance of scarring
- Mental health services, including therapy and counselling
- Loss of income if the deodorant injury left you unable to work

How Can I Know If I Have A Faulty Batch Of Mitchum Deodorant?
You can use the product’s batch number to know if you have a faulty batch of Mitchum deodorant. This is typically found at the bottom of the product. We have provided some of the codes for affected 100ml roll-on products below. However, please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and that not every batch number will be included:
- Women’s roll-on 100ml – Powder Fresh: S25321A, S25322A, S25417A, S25422A
- Women’s roll-on 100ml – Shower Fresh: S25329A, S25417A
- Women’s roll-on 100ml – Unscented: S25324A, S25329A
- Women’s roll-on 100ml – Pure Fresh: S25324A, S25416A
- Women’s roll-on 100ml – Flower Fresh: S25326A
- Men’s roll-on 100ml – Ice Fresh: S25326A, S25327A

- Men’s roll-on 100ml – Sport: S25328A, S25422A, S25327A
Per OPSS advice, consumers should stop using roll-ons from these antiperspirant batches if they are experiencing any issues.

The Process To Making A Claim Against Mitchum Deodorant
If you have suffered an injury that you believe has been caused by a recalled product, then there are a few steps you will need to take, such as evidence collection and seeking medical attention if you would like to pursue a compensation claim. Below, we have outlined specific steps to take as part of the legal process.
What Evidence Do I Need To Bring A Claim Against Mitchum?
The evidence you will need to bring a claim against Mitchum must be able to show that the injury you have suffered arose because of a defective deodorant product. Keep the antiperspirant you used, including the bottle and any packaging, as it may be needed for testing. Other evidence that may support a claim can include:
- Make a note of the batch number, which is located at the bottom of the bottle.
- Take clear, dated photographs of your skin reaction in the affected area as it progresses.
- Keep any medical records or GP notes, including prescriptions for steroid creams or treatments.
- Record dates and symptoms, noting when you first used the antiperspirant and when the irritation began.
Even if your symptoms have now subsided, this evidence can be vital in supporting your claim. If you choose to instruct one of the expert personal injury solicitors here at JF Law, you will benefit from decades of collective experience assisting clients with the process of gathering evidence. This will involve obtaining documents, such as those outlined above, to establish how your injury occurred and whether Mitchum may be considered liable for the harm you suffered.
How Long Do I Have To Make A Mitchum Injury Claim?
Generally, in a personal injury claim related to an incident involving a deodorant product, you have 3 years to start the legal process from the date of being harmed. This time limit is set by the Limitation Act 1980.
If you have any questions about the legal process and your options for claiming due to injuries caused by a defective batch, our advisors are here to help from the moment you contact us.
