What Happened?
My accident happened about four years ago while I was at work. I was oiling an air tool when one of its attachments suddenly exploded. A part of it flew straight into my eye. I wasn’t wearing goggles because I was not told or trained that I needed to for that particular job, but I’d never been given any proper training and no risk assessments had been carried out for the equipment I was using.
The impact was immediate and severe. The retina in my eye was ripped during the accident, leaving me partially sighted. I now have a blind spot in my right eye, not all vision, and hazy double vision. The damage is permanent.
What Impact Did The Injuries Have On Your Life?
The injury changed my life in ways I didn’t expect. I was off work for around eight months, which was extremely difficult physically. Before the accident, I loved cycling and riding down tracks in Wales. That’s something I just can’t do anymore.
Even everyday activities have been affected. I still enjoy walking in the hills, but there are areas where I no longer feel confident. I struggle to judge distances and terrain properly, which makes certain situations feel unsafe. The loss of vision has also affected my confidence and made me worry about how long I’ll be able to continue working in my role.
What Made You Decide To Get Legal Advice?
I didn’t rush into making a claim. I was undergoing a lot of hospital treatment at the time and hoped my eyesight might improve. Eventually, it became clear that the damage was permanent. That’s when the reality hit me.
I started worrying about my future employment and the pressure of mortgage payments if I couldn’t continue in the same job long term. Since the accident wasn’t my fault and because I was worried about my finances, I felt I had no choice but to pursue a claim.
What Was It Like Working With JF Law?
The process with JF Law was surprisingly easy. I filled in an online form and within minutes, I had a free consultation. Everything was explained clearly from the start.
They contacted me whenever they needed information, arranged appointments with medical experts, and handled everything professionally. After months of hospital treatment, the last thing I wanted was a stressful claims process, and thankfully it wasn’t. It was straightforward, calm, and never overwhelming.
The case took around 18 months in total. Initially, there was an offer that included contributory negligence, which would have reduced the compensation. JF Law challenged this, put forward a counter-argument and a new offer, and that was accepted.
The Outcome of My Claim
In the end, I received £135,000 in compensation. The outcome has helped me massively, both financially and emotionally. It’s taken a huge weight off my shoulders and given me some security moving forward.
I honestly believe it was the best outcome I could have hoped for given the circumstances.
Would I Recommend JF Law?
Absolutely. I would recommend JF Law to anyone in a similar situation. If there’s an issue and you weren’t at fault, you might as well make a claim. Looking back, I probably should have done it sooner instead of hoping the injury would improve.
The whole process was stress-free and simple. I was never confused, and everything was explained in plain English.
Clare Morris did an amazing job. I was genuinely surprised by how quick and easy everything was. It’s reassuring to know there are people like JF Law out there to help when something like this happens.
